Individual Services

  • If you are uncertain about what editing work your manuscript needs, an evaluation is a great start. I will provide an editorial letter with feedback on your manuscript’s strengths and areas for opportunity, questions for you to consider, answers to any questions you have submitted with the draft, and next steps for moving forward in editing.

  • In this big-picture stage of editing, I focus on feedback and suggestions for the story’s structural elements, characterization, and more. This service includes two reviews from me, with a round of author revisions in between. Following my first pass, I will provide an editorial letter summarizing my feedback as well as questions for you to consider during revisions and responses to anything you might have flagged in the draft. My second pass, while still a full read of the draft, generally focuses on reviewing your revisions and giving any last/updated feedback for the story’s main elements.

  • I will make close edits that may still involve significant changes to portions of a manuscript, such as rewriting and reorganizing sections of text. For example, these edits may relate to the pacing of specific events or the flow of dialogue in a scene. Line editing typically happens after the developmental work has been nailed down.

  • I’ll review your manuscript for grammar, spelling, and punctuation issues, while also checking for consistency throughout the draft, checking cross-references such as a style sheet, and ensuring that there aren’t continuity errors or missing pieces in the storyline and plot points. Copyediting happens after the main text is relatively in place and major changes are no longer expected to occur.

  • In this final polish, I will check for typos as well as punctuation, spelling, and formatting issues. The proofread should be the last stage before publishing.

Service Packages

  • If you’re looking to have the fullest extent of editing work done to ensure your manuscript is as strong as possible, this package is for you! I will provide a developmental edit to strengthen the big-picture elements of your draft (including two passes), followed by a line edit to hone the writing and then a proofread for a final polish of punctuation, grammar, and formatting. This includes author revisions following the developmental and line edits.

  • For authors who would prefer to work with multiple editors for their manuscript, it can make sense to have one editor focus on the developmental and line edits and then work with another editor or two for the copyedit and proofread stages. This package allows for focus on the overall manuscript as well as the details from one editor who knows the ins and outs of the entire story. I will provide a developmental edit to strengthen the big-picture elements of your draft (including two passes), followed by a line edit to hone the writing. This includes opportunity for author revisions following the developmental edit passes.

  • This package is ideal for authors who feel confident in their story elements and are looking for some additional polishing of their text. I will first do a pass for line edits to make suggestions for tightening specific areas of the writing and then, after your revisions, will do a final proofreading pass to clean up punctuation, grammar, and formatting.

Other Services

  • Sometimes an author needs editorial support that falls outside of my usual services. For work you might need that is not included on this page (some examples above), I also provide hourly consultation!

  • If needed, I will conduct an additional edit on specific sections, chapters, or the entire manuscript after you have made revisions or as you need during your revising process.

  • I will build a reference guide for a series and/or book which lists names and important proper nouns, other distinct terms that may be unfamiliar to readers, specific formatting notes, and other style choices. This is also known as a “series bible.”

Please note that more extensive series bible work is subject to an increased rate due to the additional time and effort required.

  • I will draft your back cover, blurb, website, or other marketing copy based on industry standards and trends. After you review the first draft of the copy, we can do up to two rounds of revisions to continue refining it as best as possible.

  • In addition to line edits and content feedback on back cover, blurb, website or other marketing copy, I’ll note any aspects that are unclear.
